Mathsy is an innovative maths education company whose goal is to provide students with all the tools they need to be able to solve maths problems effectively and to help them organise their workload throughout the academic year.
The thing I love most about my job is seeing my students reach that "eureka" moment where they crack that one topic they've been agonising over for months.
At school I was often frustrated at the way maths was taught, teachers seemed to zigzag their way through topics and there was never much structure or innovation in the way things were taught. I started mathsy to help provide students with all the tools they need to solve maths problems, and to do it in a structured way with a clear path from the first day of school to the day of their last exam.
Clients should choose me if:
- They want to be tutored by the founder of an innovative maths education company
- They want a tutor who teaches for mastery, not just to learn a "process"
- They have a good attitude to learning
Clients should NOT choose me if:
- They don't want to be pushed
- They have a negative attitude towards learning
- They prefer someone who is more "traditional"
Maths tutoring sessions can be online, I use the following tools to make sure it's a smooth experience:
- Zoom for video chat
- Miro for an online collaborative whiteboard
- Mathsy (my own website for maths content)
Note: Please make sure for online sessions you have a good internet connection and either a tablet (e.g. iPad with an apple pencil) or a graphics tablet so that you can write down your maths workings easily.

Shaman has been tutoring my son in Maths for about a couple of months now. Lessons are going well and my son finds his calm and patient approach really helpful. He doesn't fell anxious if he gets the answer wrong because Shaman reassures him and explains the topic again until he understands it. My son doesn't particularly like Maths but with Shaman's input he is gradually growing in knowledge and confidence. Shaman is approachable and available outside of lessons to support with tricky homework questions which is a bonus. The video recording of each lesson is also very useful for revision.

We have had about 4 lessons with Naveed. My daughter feels she is making good progress. Naveed has been able to fill the gaps that her school teachers have not been helpful with. Naveed is very supportive, genuinely cares and wants to ensure my daughter succeeds. Feedback and communication has also been consistent.

After searching for a while I came across Catherine. I really wanted her to Tutor my 10 year old daughter who’s in Year 6 and quite behind academically. As Catherine had no availability she kindly recommended Andrew Readie. I was apprehensive at first, however after reviewing the school he taught at and meeting him, I felt at ease. My daughter has two one hour 121 lessons per week with Andrew (English & Maths), which has been since January. She has improved SIGNIFICANTLY and a recent report from the school confirms this. Lexi is due to go secondary school soon, so will have a new teacher, however, as Andrew has been so great, he will then start to tutor my 8 year old who will be in Y4 in September. Only thing I regret is not doing this sooner. Thank you
